Exclusive: Beacon 23 renewed for a Second Season at MGM+

The premium cable network, formerly known as Epix, has officially greenlit a second season for the sci-fi drama series featuring Stephan James and Lena Headey.

Beacon 23

This announcement follows the conclusion of the first season of the drama created by Zak Penn, and a teaser for the upcoming second season of "Beacon 23" has been released. The series, initially developed for Spectrum Originals with a second window on AMC (before Spectrum abandoned original content), has already completed filming for its second season, with both cycles of the show shot back-to-back.

The team responsible for bringing Hugh Howey's bestselling novel to life in Beacon 23 has skillfully crafted a journey filled with suspense, emotion, and unexpected turns, expressed Michael Wright, the head of MGM+.

Glen Mazzara, known for his work on The Walking Dead, and Joy Blake, a key figure in The Passage, are taking on the roles of showrunners for the upcoming season. James is set to make a return alongside Natasha Mumba and Ellen Wong. Boat Rocker is the studio behind the drama, boasting an impressive lineup of executive producers, including Mazzara, Blake, David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, James Middleton, Nick Nantell, Katie O'Connell Marsh, Liz Varner, and the lead actor, James.

We are delighted by the enthusiastic response Beacon 23 has received on MGM+ and eagerly anticipate sharing more episodes with fans in 2024, expressed Fortier and Schneeberg, co-executive chairmen at Boat Rocker Media and co-chairmen of Boat Rocker Studios. Our heartfelt thanks go out to our dedicated creative partners, the exceptional team at MGM+, and the talented cast and crew for contributing to what is sure to be a memorable television season.

In the initial season of the series, Aster (Lena Headey from Game of Thrones), a government agent, and Halan (played by James), a composed ex-military individual, saw their destinies intertwine when they became trapped together inside one of the many Beacons functioning as intergalactic travel lighthouses. Season two is described by MGM+ as follows: Beacon 23 has transformed into a quasi-prison with Aleph onboard, and The Artifact raises more questions than answers. Faced with an unclear path forward, the occupants of Beacon 23 must lean on each other, even though conflicting agendas might pose challenges.

Season two of Beacon 23 elevates the stakes: more action, more enigmas, more surprises, and the introduction of thrilling new characters. It's a rollercoaster of excitement. I'm eagerly anticipating the audience's reaction, stated Mazzara. Blake added, I'm profoundly thankful to MGM+ for continuing the Beacon 23 narrative. This presents an incredible opportunity for us to explore the stories of uniquely unexpected characters whose lives are intricately connected by a place that few comprehend and none can ever escape.

At MGM+, Beacon 23 joins a scripted lineup that includes Godfather of Harlem, From, Billy the Kid, The Winter King, and A Spy Among Friends, among other titles.Top of Form
