Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, and Brian Tyree Henry Unveil the Epic Origin Story of ‘Transformers One’

One year after Paramount Pictures announced at CinemaCon that Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, and Brian Tyree Henry would star in the animated film Transformers One—the first animated movie in the franchise in nearly four decades—the studio welcomed them back to showcase their work.

During Paramount's studio presentation, Hemsworth, Johansson, and Henry had official duties, including presenting a new extended trailer for the movie (which is set for wide release on April 18) and unveiling the first scene from Transformers One in 3D. Johansson appeared on the big screen in a pre-recorded message from New York, where she is currently working on her directorial debut, Eleanor the Great.

"I'm incredibly proud of the work we've all done," Johansson said, teasing that the film is "unlike anything you've ever seen onscreen."

Hemsworth then took the stage at the Colosseum inside Caesars Palace to discuss the film, assuring exhibitors that their audiences "will experience something truly spectacular." He revealed that he plays Orion Pax, a young Optimus Prime, and is set to "show a side of this character that audiences haven't seen before." He also praised Canadian actor Peter Cullen, the long-time voice of Optimus Prime, for his contribution, describing Cullen's performance as embodying "strength, gentleness, and compassion."

The actor then introduced his "brother-in-arms" Henry, who plays D-16, a young Megatron. Hemsworth promised an origin story in Transformers One that is "unlike anything you've ever seen on the big screen before," adding, "This origin story shows how they transformed from brothers in arms to sworn enemies." The duo presented the trailer and the 3D scene.

Johansson portrays Elita-1 alongside Keegan-Michael Key as B-127, with Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm rounding out the cast. Paramount describes the film as "the long-awaited origin story of how the most iconic characters in the Transformers universe, Orion Pax and D-16, went from brothers-in-arms to become sworn enemies, Optimus Prime and Megatron."

Transformers One is set to hit theaters on September 13. The film is a collaboration between Paramount Animation and Hasbro, in association with New Republic Pictures, and is based on Hasbro's iconic Transformers action figures. Josh Cooley, the Oscar-winning director of Toy Story 4, is directing from a script by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy, Michael Bay, Mark Vahradian, and Aaron Dem are producing, while Steven Spielberg, Zev Foreman, Olivier Dumont, Brian Oliver, B.J. Farmer, and Matt Quigg serve as executive producers.
