The comedian will debut Single Lady on the global streaming platform on October 8. This stand-up special, where she explores her pursuit of love after the end of her marriage, marks her fourth hour-long show on Netflix.

Wong’s previous specials—Ali Wong: Don Wong, Ali Wong: Baby Cobra, and Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife—similarly delved into personal themes, such as marriage, pregnancy, and motherhood.

Wong filmed this latest special at The Wiltern in Los Angeles during the Netflix Is a Joke Fest earlier this year. She also took on directing duties and serves as an executive producer, alongside veteran John Irwin.

The special arrives during a time when the market for stand-up is thriving, with platforms like Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu willing to invest up to eight-figure sums to secure top comedians.

In recent years, Wong’s star has risen significantly, both as a high-grossing stand-up comedian and as an actress in projects like Netflix’s Emmy-winning Beef and the film Always Be My Maybe.

She has also lent her voice to shows like Ask the StoryBots, Ada Twist, Scientist, and Big Mouth. As her credits suggest, Netflix has been instrumental in her rise to global stardom.

Regarding her new material, Wong and her ex-husband, tech executive Justin Hakuta, announced their separation in spring 2022 after eight years of marriage.

Despite the split, they have remained close, with Wong telling Reporter the following year that Hakuta and their children would be accompanying her on tour as she developed new material about being newly single. Recently, Wong has been romantically linked to fellow comedian Bill Hader.
