The actress, along with the collective of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella, are set to create "Ready or Not 2," a sequel to their 2019 dark comedy horror success, for Searchlight Pictures.

The original film, penned by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, follows a bride, portrayed by Weaving, who discovers her new family’s wedding night tradition: drawing a card from a puzzle game. If the Hide and Seek card is drawn, as it is in her case, a deadly game ensues to fulfill an ancient family pact with the devil.

The cast included Adam Brody, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell.

"Ready or Not," produced on a $6 million budget, earned over $28 million domestically and was the widest release for Searchlight at the time. It received strong critical acclaim for its blend of suspense, horror, and social commentary. Its popularity and profitability have continued to grow in the home entertainment market.

Producers Tripp Vinson, Bradley J. Fischer, William Sherak, and James Vanderbilt are returning, with Villella and Tara Farney as executive producers.

While no plot details have been revealed, Busick and Murphy are confirmed to return as writers.

The announcement of the sequel coincides with a screening of the original film at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, where Weaving and Radio Silence were expected to participate in a post-screening Q&A.

Searchlight’s VP of production Richard Ruiz and creative executive Cornelia Burleigh will oversee the project, reporting to co-heads of production and development DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas.

"Ready or Not" significantly boosted the careers of Weaving and the filmmakers. Radio Silence went on to revitalize the "Scream" franchise with 2022’s "Scream" and 2023’s "Scream VI," and also released "Abigail," a film about vampire ballerinas, through Universal earlier this year.

Weaving has recently appeared in films such as "Bill & Ted Face the Music," Searchlight Pictures’ "Chevalier," and Damien Chazelle’s "Babylon."

Weaving is represented by CAA and 111 Media, while Radio Silence is represented by UTA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
