Cher stole the show at the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving
Day Parade, marking a dazzling conclusion to the morning's festivities that
captivated audiences nationwide with vibrant floats and performances.
The 77-year-old superstar took center stage,
serenading the crowd with her latest release, "DJ Play a Christmas Song,"
from her album, Christmas. Accompanied by a troupe of dancers holding oversized
red hearts, Cher received applause from none other than Flavor Flav, who
enthusiastically clapped and cheered among the New York City crowd.
Despite a minor broadcasting hiccup, where a video glitch displayed distorted colors while the audio remained intact, Cher seamlessly continued her performance.
Dressed in her chic cold-weather ensemble, featuring
bedazzled black pants and a sparkling silver coat, Cher exuded warmth
throughout the parade. She even shed her coat during the act.
Cher's rendition followed performances by artists
such as Jon Batiste, Jessie James Decker, Brandy, Chicago, En Vogue, David
Foster, Katharine McPhee, Ashley Park, and Pentatonix. Broadway productions,
including Shucked, Back to the Future: The Musical, and Spamalot, also graced
the parade.
This Thanksgiving spectacle is just one of Cher's holiday appearances, with another scheduled at the iconic Christmas tree lighting at Rockefeller Center in a few days. Her upcoming performance includes two songs, a solo and a duet with Darlene Love, likely featuring their recent collaboration, "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)," from Cher's Christmas album.
The star-studded lineup for the Rockefeller Center
event includes Chloe Bailey, Adam Blackstone, Keke Palmer, Foster and McPhee,
Liz Gillies, Seth MacFarlane, Barry Manilow, Carly Pearce, and Manuel Turizo.
The Rockettes are set to deliver a mesmerizing performance during the
broadcast, hosted by Kelly Clarkson.
Reflecting on her Christmas album during an earlier
interview with PAPER, Cher, a Grammy winner, shared her perspective on her
extensive discography. "I've made so
many albums, and some of the ones I thought were as good as I could like an
album of mine weren’t hits. And then other ones that I was not that excited
about [were]," she explained.
While acknowledging her self-critique, Cher expressed her satisfaction with her latest project. "So I like this album. I'm not a Cher fan, but I like doing it," she admitted. "When I listen to [Christmas], I think this worked out."
She humorously added, "I just never liked my voice that much. If I had my choice, I probably
would have another one, but I didn’t get my choice. I got my mother’s voice."
