Angelina Jolie characterizes Hollywood as 'shallow' and 'not a healthy place'

Angelina Jolie revealed in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal Magazine that she wouldn't pursue an acting career if she were starting out in the entertainment industry today. The star shared various insights, including her perspective on healing after her split from Brad Pitt and her plans for the future.

In the interview, titled "Angelina Jolie Is Rebuilding Her Life," Jolie commented on her feelings about Hollywood, the town that played a significant role in her rise to stardom. She described Hollywood as a place where she grew up in a "quite shallow" environment, emphasizing that it's not a healthy place.

Seeking authenticity, she acknowledged the challenges of navigating the entertainment industry and the importance of genuine experiences in contrast to the superficial aspects often associated with Hollywood.

“I grew up in quite a shallow place, of all the places in the world, Hollywood is not a healthy place. So you seek authenticity,” Jolie said of Hollywood.

In the interview with the Wall Street Journal Magazine, Angelina Jolie, the daughter of actor Jon Voight, expressed her lack of admiration for Hollywood despite growing up around it. She stated, “Because I grew up around Hollywood, I was never very impressed with it. I never bought into it as significant or important.”

Jolie further shared that if she were starting her career today, she wouldn't choose to be an actress, citing the increased expectation for public exposure. She explained, “I wouldn’t be an actress today. When I was starting out, it wasn’t as much of an expectation to be as public, to share so much.” Jolie acknowledged that if she were to engage in the entertainment industry, it might have been through theater rather than Hollywood.

The scrutiny and public attention intensified during Jolie's divorce from Brad Pitt seven years ago, with whom she shares six children. Jolie mentioned that during this period, the focus was on healing for her family, leading her to cut back on work and spend more time at home with her children. She emphasized the need for healing from past experiences.

Angelina Jolie acknowledged the public's interest in her life, especially during the time when she and Brad Pitt were considered a prominent couple in the entertainment industry. Reflecting on her public image, she noted, “Since I was young, people liked the part of me that’s pretty tough and maybe a bit wild—that’s the part that I think people enjoy. I’m not the one [who] you want to hear about my pain or my sadness. You know, that’s not entertaining.

Jolie, known for her humanitarian efforts and comfort in diverse environments, expressed her intention to eventually move from Los Angeles and spend more time at her home in Cambodia. She explained that the desire to live and travel freely was affected after her divorce, and she plans to make the move when circumstances allow. This transition reflects her commitment to a lifestyle that aligns with her values and personal preferences.
