Get Ready: 'Supergirl' Movie Soars into Theaters with June 2026 Release Date

DC Studios has swiftly set a release date for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow following the appointment of its director. The highly anticipated movie is scheduled to soar into theaters on June 26, 2026, as announced by DC and Warner Bros. on Tuesday.

This announcement marks the second film to receive a release date under the new banner DC Studios, following Superman, which is currently in production under James Gunn for a July 2025 release.

Director Craig Gillespie, selected by Gunn and Safran to helm Supergirl, will guide the film, starring Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin. The script, penned by Ana Nogueira, is inspired by the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic and promises a departure from the CW's Supergirl series' earnest portrayal of the character.

Alongside Supergirl, Warner Bros. has announced release dates for several other highly anticipated films. Mortal Kombat 2, from New Line Cinema, is set to hit theaters on October 24, 2025. Director Simon McQuoid will return to helm the sequel, with a script by Jeremy Slater based on the iconic videogame created by Ed Boon and John Tobias.

The star-studded ensemble cast of Mortal Kombat 2 includes Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Damon Herriman, Tati Gabrielle, Martyn Ford, along with Chin Han, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada. Todd Garner, James Wan, Simon McQuoid, E. Bennett Walsh, and Toby Emmerich are on board as producers.

Warner Bros. has announced a slate of exciting films, including Companion, which will open the year on January 10, 2025. This sci-fi thriller is produced by Zach Cregger, Raphael Margules, and J.D. Lifshitz of BoulderLight Pictures, as well as Roy Lee from Vertigo. Directed by Drew Hancock, the film stars Jack Quaid, Sophie Thatcher, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, and Rupert Friend.

The same producing team behind Companion and last year's Barbarian is also behind Weapons, slated to open on January 16, 2026. Directed by Cregger, Weapons stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.

Additionally, Warner Bros. has announced the release date for the animated holiday film Margie Claus, set to open on November 5, 2027. Melissa McCarthy voices the title role and produces the Warner Bros. Animation title alongside her husband and producing partner, Ben Falcone, and Pilar Flynn.
