Comic-Con Stunner: Marvel Surprises Fans with Exclusive Screening of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, director Shawn Levy, and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige stunned San Diego Comic-Con attendees on Thursday with a surprise screening of "Deadpool & Wolverine" during what was initially announced as a panel discussion.

Jackman, joined onstage by co-star Emma Corrin, who plays the film's villain, expressed excitement about the event: “We’ve been all around the world with this movie, but the icing on the cake is right here, right now.

The screening was held in Hall H, a venue known for drawing fans who camp out overnight for entry. Unlike the usual practice where early arrivals can secure seats for major panels, this event saw Hall H cleared out beforehand. Marvel introduced a lottery system for tickets, making those who won feel particularly fortunate.

They not only got to watch the movie but also received a unique, raunchy popcorn bucket, which quickly became a sought-after collectible. Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld was even seen signing these buckets for fans.

"Deadpool & Wolverine" opens nationwide tonight and is projected to achieve the largest R-rated opening weekend of all time, with estimates suggesting a North American gross of $160 to $175 million.

This film holds significant importance for the Comic-Con audience. Ryan Reynolds reminisced about presenting the first footage of the original "Deadpool" movie at Hall H in 2015, where the enthusiastic crowd chanted "one more time," asking to see the trailer again.

Hugh Jackman humorously took over the story, sharing his perspective from backstage, where he said he twisted arms to ensure the trailer was shown again.

Indeed, Jackman was present at the 2015 presentation, which highlighted 20th Century Fox’s X-Men characters. At that time, he announced his plan to retire the character after the film that became 2017's "Logan."

Now, against all odds, Reynolds and Jackman are sharing the screen, with Jackman coming out of Wolverine retirement for an R-rated movie released by Disney, thanks to the company’s 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox.

As the screening began, Reynolds, Jackman, and Levy exited the stage, enthusiastically chanting the movie's mantra: “Let’s fucking go!
