The film, featuring David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, is nearing the end of its production, with filming almost complete following a six-week shoot in Cleveland.

Gunn, the director and co-head of DC Studios, has been keeping fans informed on Threads. He recently posted a detailed thread on the social media platform, expressing gratitude for Cleveland's hospitality during their time in the city.

James Gunn expressed his gratitude towards Cleveland as the filming of Superman: Legacy wrapped up a six-week shoot in the city. He wrote on Threads, “#Cleveland – today we are leaving you after six amazing weeks of shooting.

From the moment we first came here on a scout a tad less than a year ago and Terminal Tower was lit up with the colors of Superman, I knew you were a special place. I would walk down your streets and someone would stop me and tell me how grateful they were we were shooting in their city — not once, not twice but dozens of times.”

He continued, “The wonderful background actors on the film were always so fun and funny and they clapped after takes, something that reminded us Hollywood cynics why we make movies in the first place. The pride you feel in being where Jerry [Siegel] and Joe [Shuster] first created Superman was invigorating. You exemplify his spirit. But just as much it’s the pride you have in your community, your hometown, your radio stations and restaurants and gathering places that touched me.”

When a fan inquired if filming was entirely finished, Gunn responded that they still had “a couple weeks left,” noting, “It’s a long shoot… but we’re getting close!!”

Superman, which began production in February, marks the first feature film under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership at DC Studios. This movie is the first dedicated solely to the Man of Steel in over a decade. The storyline focuses on Superman as he navigates reconciling his extraterrestrial origins with his upbringing as a human.

The cast includes Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Milly Alcock portraying Supergirl, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer.

Superman is scheduled to release in theaters on July 11, 2025.
