The Hollywood icon had landed in Venice, Italy Thursday night for the world premiere of Maria — whom she portrays as one half other most iconic opera singers ever: Maria Callas. Set in Paris 1970, the film directed by Chilean Pablo Larrain, recalls "the beautiful but sad days of Callas lived". Maria Netflix landed U.S. pre-Venice bows
“With these women it is almost as if the level of physical presence was higher in front of a camera, or on stage, and even only walking from one place to another we can feel something huge has already happened way before but just out of sight.” It wasn't a struggle for Angie to be Maria Callas, because she already is.

Production told Jolie learned and practiced songs based on different Italian arias, or Opera that were recorded by her singing with their coaches to have the tunes down.
Madonna ended up winning the part of Evita, but a good deal of what we hear in this film are snippets from Callas at her prime with some Jolie-fragments here and there. The work itself was also something Larrain said took a great deal of courage and emotional vulnerability on Portman's behalf -namely, the fact that she had to sing complex opera music by herself in front of up tp 500 extras huge crew.
That was "the therapy I didn't even know that I needed," Jolie said of learning to sing in Italian.

Larrain says in a director's statement about the project, “Maria Callas is always on another level of comparison when it comes to opera singers. But she was a movie star who used to sing… and some have certainly forgotten how unique that union once was. This is a story born of the last hours or her life: an elegy constructed in memories, colleagues and humbly tunes.
