UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex “Poatan” Pereira is in negotiations to make his acting debut alongside Adria Arjona in Onslaught, an action thriller being developed by A24, Lyrical Media, and Ryder Picture Company.
This film reunites the director of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire with his longtime collaborator Simon Barrett. Together, they crafted the cult classics You’re Next and The Guest, and they are co-writing this new project.
While many specifics about Onslaught remain under wraps, sources describe it as a gonzo action horror thriller. The film's scope is expected to align more closely with Wingard’s earlier works, which were original projects, rather than the blockbuster hits like Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong.
According to insiders, Arjona's character is a mother who must rely on her unique set of skills to safeguard her family after encountering a menace that has escaped from a clandestine military facility.
Pereira will portray a character named The Butcher, bringing his athletic skills to the role, which include anaconda chokes and roundhouse kicks.
The film will be produced by Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett under their Ryder Picture Company, alongside A24. Alexander Black from Lyrical Media will also produce. Wingard and his manager Jeremy Platt will produce through their new venture, Breakaway Civilization, with Barrett also involved.
Lyrical Media and A24 will co-finance the project, with A24 managing global distribution. Jon Rosenberg and Natalie Sellers from Lyrical will serve as executive producers in conjunction with A24.
Pereira is not only a former kickboxer but also a Brazilian mixed martial artist competing in the Light Heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He is among the few fighters to have won championships in two different weight classes.
